Summary: This essay is about knowing your soul code or your core personality to know yourself and your essential purpose and manifest your destiny
What is a soul code?
Setting aside for the time being all the metaphysical notions of the soul, we may define the soul code as the essence of who you are. You may again ask, what is essence? Essence in this context means the core of your being, or your essential personality, with which you establish your identity, individuality, interests and relationships in the world.
Each person is unique in some way. Everyone can be distinguished from others in many ways. Without a distinct identity, it is even difficult to live in the present day world. That uniqueness or distinction arises from the individuality, which everyone possesses and which in turn is a reflection of the soul code. This is not a religious definition. I am not referring here to the eternal, invisible, infinite, indescribable soul of Hinduism or Jainism, or the Biblical notions of the immaterial spirit.
The definition which I have stated here is meant for this discussion and limited to its central purpose, which is to help people unravel their lives and destinies through their predominant thoughts, desires and expectations. Please do not confuse it with the traditional notions of soul that survives death, fate or the divine will. The awareness which is at the center of all that happens to you or made possible by you is your soul code. It may be an expression of your core personality, or it may have some connection with your soul. That, we do not clearly know.
Each person is born with a certain individuality, soul identity or soul code. It is further shaped and colored by the experiences one goes through life. You must pay attention to it and understand it, so that you can become acutely aware of your own thoughts, purpose and actions. You will realize how you create your own reality and the story of your life by focusing upon certain aspects and ignoring the rest according to your judgment, beliefs and circumstances.
Your soul code is your internal program, a part of which is under your control, and the rest is on auto pilot. Much of our wakeful consciousness is made up of our surface impressions, learned behavior, conditioned thoughts and beliefs. A consistent and habitual part of it becomes integral to the core personality of a person, thereby helping him or her to navigate through life with certain outlook, values, morals, beliefs and attitudes. Sometimes, it is helpful, but at other times it may become a problem when it interferes with one’s thinking, attitude and behavior.
Therefore, let us redefine our earlier definition of soul code as that part in each person which is governed and shaped by a certain internal program, which is relatively enduring and consistent and which does not easily change or disappear. That program may be partly hidden in your subconscious and partly in your wakeful consciousness. It may also be responsible for your impulsive and emotional behavior over which you may not have direct control.
Your soul code survives the vicissitudes of your life and continues for years, gathering a wealth of experience and perceptions through your actions and interactions. By that, it consolidates itself, and it exerts its influence not only upon your general surface consciousness but also upon the world and others who come into its sphere of influence, which may be limited or extensive, depending upon how you succeed or fail in your life.
For any transformation or improvement to take place in your life, you must focus upon this part of your personality or your soul code. You must recognize that it is you in essence, behind the masks and the appearances which you wear in the world, and behind the name, form and status with which others recognize you from behind their own masks. To achieve success or to transform yourself in the desired direction, you need to focus upon this aspect of your personality. It is where you have a hope to change permanently certain aspects of your thinking and behavior and achieve the desired goals.
How can you become aware of this core personality or soul code that is hidden in you as the pith is hidden in the trunk of a tree? How can you identify it and understand it? How can you become acquainted with it? Let us be clear. We are not alluding here to any spiritual process. We are not speaking about self-realization in the spiritual sense, but only self-awareness in a psychological sense. It is to know and be yourself so that you are always aware who you are and where you stand in any matter, relationship or problem situation.
Everyone is endowed with certain self-awareness or self-concept. However, in most cases it is tainted by cognitive errors such as generalizations and self-induced delusions. To unravel the soul code, one must cultivate a very objective, realistic and rational awareness about oneself, free from biases, assumptions and erroneous conclusions.
You can do it by being honest with yourself and by paying attention to your predominant thoughts, fears, desires and expectations. You will succeed in that effort when you shift your focus from the external to the internal, and know your purpose and motivation and who you want to be. Many people do not have that clarity. They go through life as if they are victims of circumstances or oppressed by the forces of the world. The truth is, they give up their control and succumb to their own fears and passivity.
Most of us spend our time thinking about the world, people or things whereby our focus remains outward and we lose touch with ourselves and our core personalities. In most cases it also leads to self-deception and denial. People lose the awareness of who they are and what they are supposed to be. They may imitate others and assume behaviors that do not represent them, or rationalize their own behavior to hide their true motives or intentions.
If you want to know who you are, what your goals should be, how you should live your life or what you should do with your natural talents and god given gifts, you must focus upon your essential personality. You must know your strengths and weaknesses, your potentials, opportunities, limitations and predominant fears, and where life awaits to open its richest treasures for you. You must be careful about what impressions you create in people’s mind, and how they remember you in your absence.
Therefore, spend more time, knowing yourself, being yourself. Find out your soul code to be true and honest with yourself and to be consistent with your goals, values, beliefs and relationships. With that knowledge you can build self-esteem and trust in yourself. If you are consistent in your thinking, decision and actions, people appreciate you and consider you to be trustworthy and reliable. They will develop respect for you and faith in your basic honesty as they see that your words and actions correlate and you are transparent enough to be dependable.
According to some spiritual beliefs and traditions everyone is born with a certain destiny or a soul print, which is created by their actions in previous lives. It is a sum of their predominant thoughts, intentions and desires, which manifest in their consciousness or core personality, as a blueprint of their lives or the inner life script. Each persona carries the burden of his or her past in that blueprint and uses that as the starting point in this life.
You do not have to believe in it, unless you have your own worldview and belief in the immortality of the soul. However, even if you are a realist or a rationalist, you know that you are born with a certain genetic code, which determines many aspects of your personality and behavior. You inherit may physical and mental qualities and traits from your parents and ancestors, whether you like them or not. You will not be able to overcome most of those behavior and attitudes, since they are deeply ingrained in your personality. You have to live with them or learn to deal with them in your own intelligent ways. If you are smart, you can use them to our advantage, or minimize their impact.
Therefore, pay attention to your internal world. Know who you are and unravel your soul code. Know that while you cannot resolve the past or the limitations imposed upon you by Nature or circumstances, you can always change aspects of your core personality, if necessary, by knowing your predominant thoughts and desires and attune yourself to it. By discovering it and connecting to it, you can unravel your destiny which is wired into you. One of the keys to achieve success in life is to know your soul code or what drives you and makes you happy. It is where your life-script is hidden and where your true destiny awaits.
